The Company’s History
Schnitzer was founded in 1968 by the dentist Dr. Schnitzer, who made the wholesome food philosophy available for a large part of the population through products and literature. Schnitzer already offered long-life organic bakery products in 1996, first only wholesome. In 2002 the first expansion took place: a separate production of organic and gluten free products was put into operation. The second expansion was in 2014/2015: a new production facility was built and put into operation at the end of 2015, where about seventy different, self developed recipes were produced on a total of 7000 sq. m.- with IFS certificated food (higher level).

Social commitment
European mini-chefs
-
The project „european mini-chefs“ has stood under the motto: “health, through the right nutrition in an intact environment “ since 1989.
Kids between 10- 11 years are sensitized to healthy nutrition by the project and learn in a playful way better eating habits and local awareness.
This project goes beyond national borders and is represented Europe-wide.
Schnitzer has also sponsored the local group in Freiburg of the European mini-chefs since 2016. A magnificent forward-looking and sustainable project.
A healthy nutrition can be learned early. As soon as the European mini-chefs start to cook, communality, enjoyment and fun are focused. In that way the project achieves its goal in a playful way: kids get used to healthy food and the preparation early. We think the commitment of the young and knowledge-hungry chefs is more than commendable and exemplary. We gladly support this sustainable project.
We support people with disabilities
-
Regional Life Coaching distinguishs our company for providing jobs for people with disabilities.
In addition to 37 companies, institutions and municipalities Schnitzer was awarded in November 2017 with the certificate "unbehindert miteinander – einfach, barrierefrei". The award was given by the association Lebenshilfe Offenburg-Oberkirch.
Together, the award winners are committed to ensuring that everyone can work and live together, thus making life easier not only for people with disabilities, but also for families with children, seniors and people with a migrant background. For all, everyday life without barriers is easier to master.
We have an obligation to create the same opportunities for all people. We are happy to contribute this commitment.

Certificates
We are known for quality
Glutenfree
The crossed through ear of corn is the internationally recognized symbol for glutenfree food.
This symbol is a quality guarantee. All producers which use this must comply with high production standards in order to ensure the safety of this licensed product. In Germany this is controlled by the german celiac disease company (DZG).
Before a license contract with the DZG can be completed a current gluten-analysis of the affected products is required to ensure they are gluten-free. For exporting producers there has been an opportunity of getting a Europe-wide valid license contract with the DZG since 2012.
All products of the Schnitzer glutenfree assortment are licensed by the DZG and marked with the crossed-out ear.
Organic label
To use the organic label in the EU, the company and its products are controlled in a special way. The compliance of legal standards and special official instructions is necessary to use the organic label.
A documentation obligation plus regular extraction and examination of samples guarantees the observance of the criteria. The obligation of the regulations for all organic products is controlled by the responsible inspection body. If an additional association label is appropriated the supervision is made by the responsible -association. Schnitzer is certified by lacon according to EU-organic regulations.
IFS Certifikation
In spring 2016 Schnitzer became IFS certified and could even complete this procedure with a higher level. IFS stands for International featured standard and defines a number of food- product- and service standards. The IFS standard ensures that certified companies implement the arranged specifications and adjust the production appropriately.
